Germany up close

This last weekend, 8 of us set out on a journey to discover Germany. Originaly we only ment to visit Köln, but when we tried to book a youth hostel there we found that they had no room for us. After a bit of a struggle, Jassim managed to book us in to a hostel near Bonn. When I say near Bonn, I dont mean near. Beacause it was located some 30 minutes with bus in the outscirts.

Well, the first stop was in Köln. And we were surprised to find out that the minute you step out of the train, you gaze upon the famous cathedral of Köln, one of the biggest churches in Europa. In the mix of all the shopping centres and other tourist stuff, there is a 170 meter high Dome, and it is beautifull. We guided our selfes through the grand church, and ended up at the top, some 509 steps towards the founding father. And what a view that awaited us. Absolutely geourgous.

After tasting the lokal beer of Köln-->Kölsh and dineing at a Persian restaurant, we left for Bonn. And because the hostel was so am Arse der Welt, we could not go to any disco or lokal waterhole. We had to settle with the hostel bar which closed all serving at 12, not even the harshes methods of persvasion ( note to self: check spelling) were successfull.

The next morning we got up before the sun, and went of to discover that Bonn really has nothing much to offer for tourist, just a couple of buildings. So we left for Düsseldorf.

In Düsseldorf, we had our guide Jassim which had a language course here earlier to show us the main sights. And of course we had to go into the RheinTower. A TV tower much like all other tv towers, but just a bit higher. From there we could see all of Düsseldorf, and then some.

Düsseldorf is a really beautifull city, worth visiting. To our surprise there was snow in the streets, originating from last weekends world cup in cross country sprint.

After walking through most of the old city in Düsseldorf and eating italian food, we set our direction towards Darmstadt, and after 4,5 hours with train, we finally came back home... Home away from home...

Thanks to all my travel mates... It was truly a great experience. Milja,Jakko,Jassim,Olli,Tanya and Ilka
